Diary Entry 4

Today we began our animatic after cutting the scanned storyboard into the computer. We now need to add the song to our animatic to make it more realistic

Diary Entry 3

This week we finalised our storyboard, filling in details and colouring in our shots. This will be useful to us to look back on and guide us when we begin shooting.

We are soon going to start creating a animation of our storyboard to give us a better idea of what our video will look like. This should give us a fair representation of our video, giving us time to improve on gaps within he narrative and problems with the story.

Diary Entry 2

We feel as a group our new video idea, circling the life of a girl suffering from anorexia, is easier for us to develop. We have completed our storyboard and feel we are back on track for a successful video. Towards the end of this week and next week, we want to begin shooting footage. However we still need to confirm a cast, although we have an idea of the people we are using.

Developing New Ideas

After having the setback of choosing a new song, we found it difficult at first to develop ideas fully and felt we had no direction with the idea of drugs and homelessness in our video. Not only was it difficult to make our video unique from others with the same idea, for example ‘The A Team’ by Ed Sheeran, we felt it would be hard to  include the drugs subtly.

The idea of anorexia within the video meant that we weren’t taking the lyrics of the song ‘Medicine’ so literally, like our previous idea. It is also topic that we could go in many directions with, whilst still keeping the video emotionally viable. The references to ‘medicine’ within the song are relatable to an anorexia sufferer relying on their starvation as a source of control. This is something close to our heart as most of us in the group have known a close friend suffering through the illness.

This is a particularly important point as it means none of us want to create a harsh video and but only to tell the story from a bystanders view.

Beginning The Project

To begin our project we or songs from different genres, using the social networking site Facebook to share links and lyrics. However we encountered numerous problems with song choices such as choosing a song that already had a video and choosing the same song s as someone else in the year. This was unfortunate as we had developed a substantial pitch and idea however we the group we pitched against had planned more into their project. Originally we had the idea of a war theme to go with the song ‘Youth’ by Daughter. When judging both groups pitches, teachers decided that our video idea could be more easily adaptable to another song whereas the groups idea was more suited to the song. To add to this we decided it would be a good idea to go into the pitch off with a second song choice, also by Daughter. We decided this backup choice could focus on the downturns of a girl using drugs. The song, suitably names ‘Medicine’, was similar in genre and tone of the first song, giving ourselves more of a chance if we had to change

Unfortunately the other group had a more developed storyline and won the song . However we adapted and changed our ideas numerous times to fit the new song. From the drug theme we explored ideas of depression. Eventually we decided on a storyline that followed a teenage girls decline through anorexia.

Mood Board

We created a mood board to gives us inspiration from a range of areas, for example, locations and relevant artists. Colour, performance and album artwork were also prominent parts of our mood board. These features will are all vital to make our entire project successful, and we can look back on the mood board to help see our project develop throughout.

Diary Entry 1

After the end of this week, we are feeling slightly stressed as group, as we feel that we are not on schedule to choose a good song that we can create a deep, developed video to. After losing the pitch off, this has set us back a week or so, but we are determined to get back on track and organise new ideas. Despite this we can still use a lot of the planning we did for the first song 'Youth' as our new song 'Medicine' by the same artist, is within the same genre covering relatable topics.

Deciding a Song

When we were trying to decide a song we went on YouTube as a group so that we could find a song without a video. After first finding a song which had a video, we double checked on YouTube further. We chose a variety of songs from different genres from dance tracks to indie.

When deciding on a song, we first went for a dance remix by MGMT. However this song was a bit too long and as it was a remix we thought the original video might influence us.
This slower song was another choice we wanted as it had a deeper meaning the MGMT song, giving us more options to develop ideas and create emotion within the video.
Another song by Daughter, 'Medicine' was our back up song. Similarly to 'Youth' it had a relatable topic with lyrics which we could create a video with a deeper meaning.
